Alleviating Costs
Cost has long been cited as a key barrier to sport participation in club settings. Here are some ideas for your club to consider to alleviate some of the costs and to support those who would not otherwise participate:
- Ensuring that Committee Members or anyone handling member payment understand their obligation of confidentiality
- Placing a statement on the registration form that invites families to discuss alternative payment methods if needed with the treasurer
- Discounting families paying for multiple memberships or bringing family members to events
- Developing a range of payment and support options e.g. installments, early pay discounting, uniform loan, second-hand uniform sales, and purchase of club equipment kits for players not affording their own gear
- Seeking grants to assist offset some of the costs for disadvantaged families e.g. Uniform and equipment grants
- Seeking sponsors or community partners e.g. service clubs to try to offset costs for disadvantaged families
- Undertake fundraising to establish a support budget for people who are prohibited by costs
- Establish a "try before you buy" process for people who are new and are challenged by costs
